Dear Delegates,
As we travel to St. Louis, we have a clear choice. Are we going to vote to create a church where there is grace and a place for everyone? Or, are we going to vote to create a church where one group triumphs over another and certifies, punishes, and evicts all those who do not share their view?
The One Church Plan inserts grace in the place of division and control. The One Church Plan graciously allows “traditionalists” to be “traditional” and “progressives” to be “progressive.” This General Conference is not a referendum on homosexuality; it is a referendum on grace. Are we willing to live with one another or not?
The Advisory Board of Mainstream UMC asks you to vote for grace. Please vote for the One Church Plan. Our Board has “traditionalists” and “centrists” and “progressives.” What holds us together is a commitment to be the church for and with one another. We, like the church, are united through our faith in Jesus Christ.
General Conference 2019 will go down in history. We pray it is remembered for grace.
In Christ,
Mainstream UMC
